(8th September 2020, Hong Kong) Hong Kong & Kowloon Ferry Limited (HKKF) is awarded the outlying island ferry license by the Transport Department to operate the three routes from Central to Yung Shue Wan, Sok Kwu Wan in Lamma and Peng Chau from 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2026.
Ms. April Lam, the General Manager of HKKF, welcomes the decision and the company will launch a series of upgrading services in the next five years ranging from ferry software to hardware.
To meet with the needs of passengers, the company will adjust or extend the present ferry schedule and issue new types of ferry tickets such as student monthly tickets and multi-ride tickets.
Piers and vessels facilities will be further enhanced by adding priority seats on ferries and monthly ticket express passage at piers.
In line with developing Hong Kong into a Smart & Green City, HKKF will upgrade its website and develop new mobile phone applications in providing real-time information such as ferry arrival time and seat vacancy availability.
Also, the company will participate in the vessel subsidy scheme to replace its existing fleet gradually and add new vessels with more eco-friendly design.
Ms. April Lam said, “Under the strike of Covid-19 pandemic and the economic recession in Hong Kong, our patronage number has been dropping continuously.
“Definitely, we will face a hard time ahead. Only until the present patronage number rises back to the level of 2018, our operation pressures will be eased.”
New ferry tickets, an increase of no more than five percent. Details will be announced closer to the date.
