Peng Chau

Peng Chau

Peng Chau is only 8 kilometres to the west of Hong Kong Island, situated next to Discovery Bay. There are about 6,000 inhabitants living on this 1 square kilometre big island. Peng Chau disseminates and promotes a relaxing atmosphere. The crime rate is the lowest among all the islands in Hong Kong.

 

There is no transportation available on the island but visitors can follow the directions along the family trail get to all the sightseeing spots.

 

The main access to Peng Chau is the ferry route linking with Central Pier. It is operated by Hong Kong & Kowloon Ferry Limited.

Historical Geography

According to historical records, Peng Chau has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. The lime kiln industry thereat started its development in Han Dynasty. Lime kiln industry played an important role of Hong Kong modern history.
